Sketchbooks

Personal Work

Portraits

I enjoy drawing portraits of fictional characters in my spare time, and have devoted an entire sketchbook to them. They range from favorite characters of video games or books, my own and my friends' D&D characters, or characters for my own writing projects. I prefer to take more cartoony or stylized characters and making them more natural in proportions, but sometimes I just use this as an excuse to draw a personal favorite. They're a good way for me to keep up and improve on expressions, proportion and form rendering.

Aimless Ramblings

If I'm not drawing portraits, or working on a larger project, I can be found doodling in a sketchbook. Sometimes the sketches turn into a bigger project, sometimes they're just mindless creations; sometimes I'm inventing, sometimes I'm drawing the world around me. At times I'll use a page or two to rough out some thumbnails for an idea that's niggling away at the back of my mind, or get out a little silliness through redrawing memes. Some of my favorite things have come from nonsensical scribbles. Despite being intended for unguided practice, I always end up tying a sketchbook doodle to some other current or future project. My sketchbooks are also chock full of notes, whether from classes, personal life tasks and thoughts, or just inane commentary on what's on the page.
